Hi guys, advice / reassurance needed, please. Husband currently in hospital with AF and some VPCs (mainly single or double, a few consecutive runs). Had i/v beta blocker, amiodarone and fluids. Potassium is ok, chest x ray ok, waiting for echo scan. HR reducing but still 100 ish (was 160-170 on admission). Perfectly well until 1am.

While it is by no means my major concern at the moment, we are supposed to be flying to New Zealand for a month on Saturday. Any suggestions as to how this may progress?

Hi MrsV _ i'm a patient rather than a doc so have no medical input. My reading of your husband's issue is that the hospital may be more concerned about the VPCs than about the AF. If he doesn't have heart didease then I think the prognosis is good and you may be sent on your way with betablockers and nothing else.

Hope he feels better soon - when was he admitted?

Thanks, Macca. He went in at 07.30 ish today. Meds achieving some rate control but still AF so had GA and cardioversion at about 18.00. Almost miraculous transformation! He's in overnight but will hopefully escape tomorrow on beta blockers. What a day!

Hi folks, not been on here for a while, but happy to report that outlook brighter now I have found an AF specialist. He put me on Anetelol which seems to be working to keep heart rate stable. I'm able to run up to 5 miles (slowly). This is a fitness thing as I hope the more I do the fitter I will be. My latest echocardiogram was fine and the GP was happy with the result. Next appointment not until February 2014. So on with the cross country spikes and hopefully The national Champs in Nottingham

over 2 months since the last post on here - is that a sign that everyone is fit and well?

I had a check-up at LHCH just before Christmas, 15 months after my PVI. Everything fine - just a very occasional flutter.

24-hr trace in October had detected a few and it was nothing more than an ectopic heartbeat, so nothing to worry about.
Been discharged back into care of my GP, but so far, so good

Will keep popping in to keep an eye on you all ;-)

My AF is still always likely to occur but haven't had a sustained episode since September. I have a HM on Sunday so that might kick it off, but as I am not running as fast since a few months ago I think this is tending to hold the AF off. If my HR exceeds 165 for a long time then it will come on, but that won't happen until near the end on Sunday.

Still thinking about ablation, but right now it doesn't seem worth it.

Good luck at Helsby. I would have been there myself, but it's just a bit too far, too soon

no change for me since October - waiting for second PVI but I can still exercise as much as I want (if the plantar fasciitis would let me run that is!). Swimming and biking at the mo.
