Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I know he's said he wouldn't do stuff the website does. But I do think that that's fundamentally missing the point of an app in terms of facilitating access to the site's information online and offline.

The world doesn't need another GPS tracking app (IMVHO!), and the world of Fetch exists quite happily relying on sources of GPS inputs from various watches and devices.

I take the point about using an app for the game playing, so perhaps I'm out of the loop on that as I don't do the games at all.

But being able to bring up my log, my summary, my planned races etc whether or not I've got a decent connection would be the most useful stuff to me. Though I fully understand why it may not be worth the effort to code!!

To FF:
There's been a bit of debate about whether an app should be:

just GPS logger;

GPS logging plus other mobile specific (GPS) things like games, routes etc. or

whether it should have lots of things like the website (which Fetch doesn't want to double up on).

That last one may be because "apps are the new web" and some people will only come to Fetch if there is "an app"? Just some thunks. What is it that each person is looking for in an Android App? :-) G

When I had the I-phone the app was just a GPS logging device that uploaded straight to Fetch, that is so much easier than using map my walk because I have absolutely no idea how to import that to Fetch.
A straight forward GPS app 'in case' my Garmin dies or we're out for the day and I decide to record my walk would be great because it will automatically upload to Fetch.

There are many non techie people on Fetch that may or may not use it but if they did it would make life much simpler.

I recorded walks when I was away on map my walk but I've done nothing about trying to import them to Fetch because of the time involved in trying to find out how to do it and the technicalities of it all.

FF, just fmail me if you want a step by step on how to get MapMyWalk walks/activities off your phone and in to Fetch. Happy to have a call to chat if it helps. It wouldn't take long, promise you! :-) G

I think it would be good to do something brand new with the app. We don't need another fitness/workout tracker on the market. However, fetch has some pretty cool features that could be integrated into an app.

For example, seeing on a map your icons in fetchpoint or seeing which conquercise area you are in and where you need to run to in order to grab the next one.

Imagine the hide n seek game in augmented reality on an app, in realtime you can see people moving around and re-hide based on where the seekers are.

Just thinking out loud.

Nothing wrong with the suggestion but Fetch didn't want to repeat the site features on an app and that I can understand. It's all available online through the website.

The only reason I would like an app is to make it easier for me to upload my exercise to the website if I don't have my Garmin or it dies on me while I'm out and no other reason. (Lazy and not tech savy.)

I would also like an app for that reason :)
