And we have another whole thread, but coming from completely opposite direction to the FRAD thread (!), where we don't want alcohol, but we would like some different flavours. Lots of good suggestions and reviews over there... fetcheveryone.com/viewtopic.php?id=18416 G |

LOL, I did consider posting that there HG, but felt that the purpose of that thread was less about temporary abstinence and a review of alco free beers would be a bit trivial!!

I used to work in a pub as an 18 year old, and at the time I think the only option there was Kaliber. Though one of my colleagues did misunderstand the labelling and would sell "Low C" to customers as a low alcohol beer, when in fact it was full strength but low carb!

I think it may have been me that mentioned the German races McG, I've enjoyed it after Munich and Hamburg marathons. It is my favourite of the type but would concur about its gassy qualities, care required with pouring and imbibing!

Amstel and Grolsch both do a 0.0% "radler" beer, either lemon or lime flavoured, which is much better than the alchol-free normal pilsner. Not sure how easy it is to find in the UK though. (also watch out, they do a 2.0% version as well...) Dusseldorf marathon gave erdinger 0.0 at the end, it was vile IMO. |

A very considerate point Larks. OK, I'll stick my tuppenceworth in there then St Peter's Without - nice full flavour, but a bit sweet (as I think a stout is likely to be with alco removed) Adnams Ghost Ship was good - though I struggle to find it. Again, a bit sweet, but at least a more "aley" flavour. Erdinger is my fave - was £2 for a half litre, but often found for £1.30 in my local Asda now. There's a Franziskaner Weissbier - again, not as dry as you'd hope, a bit sweet. Heineken 0% is OK, a bit weak. Becks Blue is still my go to - quite a weak flavour, but dry. Refreshing when cold. A bit of flavour, maybe not much, if not cold. Bud Prohibition I wanted to like but it's really pretty poor - weak and sweet! Brew Dog Nanny State I really don't like much. Lots of flavour but not a nice flavour! Sickly. Cobra 0% was an early one, but I didn't like that much. Not much flavour. I've seen a San Miguel zero too. I think I had it on holiday and there I thought it was good! There's also an Estrella one. But I haven't tried that. But it's all a matter of taste, of course! G |

And I can't stand the lemon / lime "shandy" things (Radler beers). Euch. G

I don't like St Peters Without although I find that quite a few of their beers are either truly awful or really quite drinkable, they don't seem to do much (for me) that's just average or OK! I quite like Bavaria and would probably buy it as a 'safe bet' when looking for a low/no alcohol beer but prefer the 'normal' to the 'wheat' version. Cobra 0 I found OK but as I remember a bit pricey. San Miguel much the same as above but of the two slightly nicer Ghost Ship 0 - is actually OK. Tastes even better when mixed with normal Ghost Ship - eg in preference to a shandy if driving |

Erdinger (and lots of it - saw people carrying away 3 or 4 glasses of it) at the end of Cambridge HM every year too. I think the Ghost Ship 0 is quite pleasant. |
