Nah - I reckon they were local. They said hello to a few peeps. Must be a shortage of hairdressers in the area for blonde ladies of Penny’s age. All had the same barnet.

Any suggestions for a grinder in the region of £20 or so - or does such a thing not really exist.
It'll be mostly used for grinding Aldi (or similar) beans for an Aeropress.

It may not exist, sadly. But then I may have become prey to coffee snobbery too so my advice might not be universal!

I treated myself to a hand grinder for work / aeropress and holiday use at Christmas. It's a TimeMore Slim Plus and I've been really impressed with how easy it is to use. I wanted that one specifically as it fits inside my aeropress for travel purposes, but TBH that's a bit unnecessary.

TimeMore do the well reviewed C2 which is £50 on Amazon at the moment. That would be a solid recommendation I think. I would guess the best bet is to flick through some of the amazon listings for their "no name" brand stuff and see if the reviews give you enough confidence that they will last and be easy enough to use.

It is daft that grinders are so expensive, but having had an old cheap one which I never used because it was so hard to grind with and so much faff to get the coffee out of, I'm happy that what I've got is good VFM for me.

I used a cheap Bodum blade grinder for years. Seemed almost indestructible. Cheap burr grinders disintegrate if you actually use them.

I know there is much hate for blade grinders, but the only other option might be a non-electric hand grinder.

Definitely a hand grinder if trying to keep the costs down. Stainless steel burr hand grinders have come on in leaps and bounds in the last 10 years or so I think.

Lidl did a combined grinder/filter the other week in middle aisle offers. It's ok for £15. Else Poriex Mini or Rhinowares are solid & will last many years but are slightly over the £20 budget.

Rhino is ceramic burrs though, as is the porlex. For the money the timemore C2 is a much better bet, for just about the same cash.

What's wrong with ceramic burrs?

Another option could be an old Zassenhaus wood box style grinder 2nd hand.

SS are sharper and less prone to being chipped; sharper means they are easier to use and require less force. Also gives a tendency towards more consistent grind size.

It may make little to no difference I suppose, and once you've bought some you'll likely not compare what you've got with anything else.

Like I say, I've disappeared down the rabbit hole of coffee gadgetry recently so maybe I'm being a bit OTT!
