It certainly is :-)

Linds, I have a quite solid heavy zone3 drybag tow float, like LD I can put things in it, shoes & socks once. If it’s at all windy I don’t take it. So a lightweight one solely for safety/visibility may be better.

Thank you. I looked at those ones. Good info that they are heavy. Cheers

First day of exercise referral course here. Was going to go out for a run straight after but Garmin was flat so put it on charge and having dinner now.

Legs are still a bit sore from the weekends efforts and head is full of information!

Fragile Do Not Bend
Bah, today’s walk didn’t get off to a good start. The footpath I chose included some borderline dangerously broken stiles and terminated in a horse field with no apparent exit due to what looked like electric fencing all around.

So we backtracked over one of the dodgy stiles into a meadow. Flattened grass suggested several people had walked around the edge away from the footpath so we went that way hoping for a way outnumbered onto the road. Then a very rude man shouted at us from the house opposite that we weren’t on the footpath and if we climbed over the field gate and broke it, we would have to pay for it.

Hmm, I’m guessing we were far from the first people to have had the same issue with the horse field then. He had a point so we had no choice but to backtrack. It was only after we’d left that I realised at least one of the dodgy stiles was likely to belong to him and I wished I had told him I was reporting it to the council. Which I will do, along with the apparently blocked (and definitely not signposted) footpath.

um
Fragile - were there any clips or gaps in the electric fence. A couple round here look like there's no gap or break, but on closer inspection there's a few insulated clips, so you can undo, walk through then reclip.

Will take a pic next time I'm near one.

I don’t know, I’ve no idea about electric fences and I wasn’t about to start fiddling with it. If there is a safe way though it should be marked and instructions on how to get through if it’s not obvious.

It’s quite depressing looking at the local PROW fault reporting page and seeing all the faults that have been reported years ago but the status is still “awaiting allocation”.

Some large clusters suggesting that certain landowners have been trying to prevent people using the footpaths across their land and getting away with it.
