That's a beautiful medal, LG. I love the names children think up for things.
Bint - you're giving crochet lessons? - I went on a full one-day course a few years back, and was hardly any wiser at the end than at the beginning. Pity I don't live near you.
SallyKate - what a lovely thing to have said to you by your daughter. A real vote of confidence.
Maz - Boughrood is no distance from me; I drive past it every time I head southwards towards Brecon or Abergavenny (or back therefrom). It is indeed a tiny little village. Nevertheless, there's a bus that stops there.

Day 12 of C25K done, in beastly cold wind which I told myself was character-forming.

hail here (well, there, I'm back here now), rainbow, gorgeous turquoise sea under beastly black clouds, squelchy hilly fields and lots of mud and a vineyard. We went exploring and it was an adventurous 5 miles!

No residential field trips from primary school Back In My Day - country still pulling itself back together post-war, I expect. Though we did have some day trips which I enjoyed. And a biology field trip some time during what is now Key Stage 4, when we stayed in Willie Lot's Cottage, featured in at least one of Constable's paintings. Loved that, though it was bitterly cold. Huge log fire in Willie Lot's Cottage fireplace in the evenings.
Children went on field trips in years 5 and 6, and seemed to have enjoyed them, but they are not shrinking violets, and had all had nights away from home previously.

Fierce and Focused Fleecy
I had school residentials in horrible places like Wagga Wagga (really bloody cold) and Orange (really bloody hot), both in the middle of nowhere and we caught the mail train both ways to both and it took 2 nights each way. And then I'm pretty sure they were ex army barracks and they made us do archery in a desert and eat hideous food and do hospital corners on our beds. Ds1 had to go to the IoW in February but he enjoyed his a lot more than me, they did lots of fun activities. Ds2 went to somewhere in Dorset with tipis in May (might have been Swanage) and loved it, lots of fun activities again. They both went on a school trip last year to the Eden project (it was multiple years, it was optional so a small number) and all they talked about was the room they had which didn't have a fan but did have a telly and some rooms had fans but no tellies so they all spent the time stealing each other's fans and tellies. I'm not sure they mentioned the actual Eden Project ONCE!

Meglet mentioning (a couple of pages back) buying lots of postcards on the IOW just reminded me ..
When I worked for Galileo, we used to have a "Boring Postcard" competition each year with rules such as no "Swanage By Night" cards allowed (other locations are available). At the end of the Summer, a grand celebration/prize-giving was held at a nearby pub.
