I am at work, still supporting colleague who was given weird disciplinary meeting before Christmas. Not done any actual work yet, but this feels worthwhile.

Did you get on with it, Corrah?

Been gardening.

Have left saucepan at Bruv's flat, so later on will walk there and collect it, and walk back. Next year I will start logging walks as well as runs, unless they are negligible

I did indeed get myself out and managed a lovely 8 miles in the sunshine. My newly revised target this year is 400 miles, which is not great, but I will be back to aiming for my 700 next year again :)

I try to log walks, especially when they are not dawdling :) Every little helps as they say.

I hoping to get to 200 miles this year, which isn’t bad considering the year I’ve had.

For the last few years we’ve had a kettle you put on the hob. My main complaint with it was that it took ages to boil, so long that I could feed the cat and make the sandwiches for packed lunches while waiting for it to whistle. Just before Christmas Mrs D was looking for a kettle and bought one that boils and dispenses a cup full very rapidly. Part of her thinking was that the children could make themselves a hot drink with less risk of burning themselves. Before you use it you have to run a reservoir of water through it to make sure it’s clean and the water isn’t tainted. We did this, but the next day Mrs D decided that there was still a bit of a ‘taste’ to the water so tried to empty it out into the sink, pouring boiling water over her hand on the process. Painfully ironic.

um
I never trust those boiling water taps.

But ... tested out my 'self-present' today (Fetch buff). Bad news, it didn't make me faster.
Nor did the new running tights, shirt or jacket.

Also nudged over the 1200 'activity miles' for 2018 - ie combined running, walking* and cycling. Needed to include my 67 miles cycling to get there - so now glad I did those 2 days on the Thanet coast.
*Walking is 'proper' walking - ie SWCP, Peak District, Welsh hills, slogs etc. Not Tesco or the paper shop.

But of course the big one and the bin will happen on the next run ...

I log most of my walking (some of it purely for WSW reasons, admittedly) as I do a lot of it and find it good for cross-training.

Longer walks of the type described by um are "hiking"

And I'm with you on those boiling water taps. They make me nervous.

Welcome to the 700 miles in 2018 thread, everybody welcome :-)

The thread motto is:

'700 miles is neither necessary nor sufficient'

All you have to do is run about 1.91 miles per day or 13.46 miles per week or 58.33 miles per month and take a picture when you get to 700 miles of either you or the spot you reached the target or both if you want to. And if you go under or over 700 miles nobody will mind.

Join in the chat on the friendliest thread around - all things discussed and sometimes even some running is talked about.

Next year's spreadsheet can be found here - let's fill it up
