It is much closer to a cask version of a NEIPA than a traditional English IPA.

I have seen Wipeout around Oxford which we visit regularly but for some reason I haven’t tried it, (yet) maybe because I try to go for darker beers.

But just to show that isn’t always the case. Here’s one I missed off the last update as I thought I had already had it this year, but I was wrong, it was last year.

57 JHB Oakham brewery, a fine very pale ale

I once listened to a debate between some knowledgeable Camra guys about how to define NEIPA , west coast IPA and traditional IPA, I am still not much closer to understanding.

Yes. When were down in Oxford last year I kept hoping Little Ox would pop up in a pub we visited. Unfortunately not, but we did find Tap Social who are also great, and Listerswho are very good, and have seen up here now.

It gets worse there's Cascadian IPA too.

I reckon you hardly ever see an old time IPA now, they are very strong, pretty dark so much so that they don't really taste as much of hops as you might think. Most are too pale and too fruity, good though.

I think I find an awful lot of pale ale bring passed 9ff as IPA too.

You are right. Some brewery’s descriptions are way off what I would expect. I do like a pub that lets you taste those you don’t know.

I’ll look out for cascadian IPA not seen that.

You might live a Cascadian IPA. Very dark. Very Hoppy.

That is indeed a takeover.

By Ocelot Spleens's benchmark, Shepherd Neame IPA and maybe Broughton HOPO 6% might count as traditional. Going further, some of the DIPAs?

I have a bit of list updating to do, will try and post later.

Yes. Not too dark. The other name Cascadian IPAs go under is Black IPA.

My utappd notes say Distant Hills, Manna IPA was tending trad. 5.6%, pretty Hoppy but malty too, no fruit.....

and here we are in 2024....

I still really like a pint.

I think this is not too controversial health wise. Lots of beers about these days. I interpret it as different beers within 2023, and you can, if you like; avoid beers you have had before, but as ever the list is yours to do what you like.
