With some talent for the event, and with a hell of a lot of training, I have increased my javelin from 30m to 34m. I am full optimistic of achieving the 85m required standard

I think I'd have to join a local rifle club as I don't think anything with excessive movement would suit me anymore.

I still tend to think I could play football to a reasonable level (I couldn't). Even if they changed the men's football category to Over 55 and GB actually entered a team, I wouldn't even get close. I suspect that most of the 27% are people who don't currently take part in any organised sport at all. The fact that 80% of amateur runners in my age category are faster than I am tells me all I need to know. |

There was a great video I saw a few days ago with yer average member of the public being put on a treadmill going at the pace Keely Hodgkinson was running the 800m at, and seeing how long they could keep up. Some lasted more than a few seconds, but not many. The thing is, with people who are exceptionally good at sport, is that they make it look pretty easy. I used to play football to a semi-reasonable amateur standard, and played with guys who were a lot better than me and who made it all look far easier than I made it look, and none of them ever made it to even the lower ranks of professional leagues. There's a world of difference between making it look easy, and how easy it really is...

I'm sure I read somewhere that Olympic rowers have to consume 10,000 calories a day? Pretty confident I could take to that part of it. |
