I went out for a short run (1.22miles) at 11.59pm last night - the rain was torrential! None of my family wanted to join me - can't think why. It was awesome.

Tired run this evening! Have spent the entire day at school doing last minute prep for CCF summer camp - including having a practice drive of the largest minibus on the planet without the children in there. The next 4 days should be interesting.

Hi all. Sorry it's so late.
There's been some great running this month. Well done all.
My theme this month is women in STEM...
Dame Stephanie (Steve) Shirley After leaving school she opted not to go to university because as 'botany was the only science available to my gender'. She worked at the Post Office Research Station, building computers from and writing low-level code in machine language. She took evening classes to get a maths degree. She founded a software company in 1962 with the intention of offering job opportunities to women in the field of technology. She positively discriminated in favour of women and of the first 300 staff, only three were men. She also adopted the pseudonym "Steve" because letters signed "Stephanie" were largely ignored. Her team were responsible for programming the black box flight recorder on Concorde.
Katherine Johnson She excelled at maths at an early age and although disadvantaged by segregation and limited opportunities available to black students, she graduated with degrees in mathematics and french aged just 18 After various jobs including teaching and mathematics research, she got a job at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (later to become NASA). Her first role was to perform maths calculations as part of a pool of women who were "computers that wore skirts". She was temporarily assigned to the all-male flight research team. Her calculations were critical to the first (and subsequent) manned space flights. Her story is portrayed in the 2016 film Hidden Figures.
Professor Sarah Gilbert Sarah Gilbert earned a BSc in Biological Sciences in 1983, before doing postgraduate research in the brewing industry. She later moved into the field of biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals. She was part of a team that developed a universal flu vaccine - unusual in that it did not stimulate the creation of antibodies, but triggered the immune system to create T cells that specifically attack the flu virus. The principle from this approach was developed further in order to make a vaccince against Covid-19 and enabled the vaccine to be produced quickly and relatively cheaply. She was interviewed by Jim Al-Khalili in The Life Scientific on Radio 4 where she explained the approach and the ambition to rapidly deploy other vaccines using the same delivery and immune system stimulation methodology.
Marissa Mayer Marissa Mayer was the 20th employee of the relatively young technology company Google when she joined in 1999 She was largely responsible for the design of the clean, simple search home page. She was also part of a three person team that produced the Google AdWords system that is responsible for selling and displaying the advertising on the Google platform. She founded the Associate Product Manager programme which identified, mentored and developed aspiring talent within the company. She was also heavily involved in the development of Google Images, Google Maps and Gmail. In 2012 she was appointed CEO of Yahoo.
