Working life! In the organisation I worked for for twenty five years before retiring and for which I'd been training (!!) for many years before that, I began as a lot of people do---in a basic post. After a decade and becoming a manager of a team everything seemed to be "set fair", the team was happy, the service users were happy with what we provided until a another organisation took the helm. And with it came a handful of flies in the ointment which ruined everyone's job satisfaction --as a manager I had to follow the company line that had been re drawn in the principle of progress, torn between the devil and the deep blue sea. Progress has not worked out, the company has since lost its direction completely and is no more. I'm all for change---but change for the better and not for the sake of egos!

I worked for Transport for London for over 25 years and saw the wheel being reinvented at least every 5 years during that time and kept coming back full circle. If it's not broke don't fix it.

I think that we all have run ins with senior management etc. Thankfully I was offered voluntary redundancy at the age of 58.5, and have never regretted taking it. I think that it is universal that staff put in the effort, and bosses take the credit. The OBE is a case in point "Other Buggers Efforts." This morning was an excellent interval session with the Wednesday Group on a gravel track. It comprised 5 x 100 metres, 5 x 200 metres with 30 seconds recoveries and 4 x 400 metres with 60 seconds recoveries. |

Sounds similar, people have become very jaded with it all, lots of headcount reduction then increase in workload for those left, increase in orders but no more heads. Wrong people being put in senior positions who are not cut out for management positions or to lead a programme. We lost our manager last year (in the blink of an eye) and my colleague said this week maybe we should have stuck with doing our jobs rather than taking on his work too as nothing has failed but we are both exhausted and disengaging. New boss takes over next month but he is not the right person (lovely chap but not for this role - although happy to be proved wrong) I'm at a point of thinking I need to pull back on the running to allow me to keep work going, keep the house & life on track but running is the one thing I get a lot out of - except when its raining like today. |

Ohh.. that's a tough dilemma gg. I'm sure that we can get a lot out of running without it interfering with other important life involvements. There is more to living than running....balance is key.

geordiebells Running is done in your own time not work time. Do your hours and log off, there's always tomorrow or the day after. Deadlines are only achievable in realistic time frames, start saying 'I can't because.....' stand up for yourself because no one else will.

Festive Flier I’m work in progress it’s years of being the only one responsible. Daft thing is it’s only me lifting pressure on. I was going to sack off my workout tonight but I’ve got it done and bags almost sorted for the weekend. |

You've done four good sessions in the last seven days gg with a nine miler there too. Well done on your 4.7 yesterday. Having done four days training in a week that looks pretty good to me. Don't fret about extra days when you're doing that well! FF only (only!!) does four runs a week and doesn't seem to fret over non running days and has good outcomes. I could only manage two miles this morning but happy enough as I coughed along! Bird song along trail is at its peak now, hard to think that midsummers day is very near. |

GG, apart from my first 5 years working in London, I managed to fit in a run, or workout in the lunch break. I found this invaluable, especially when work was very stressful. I'm afraid that I was never one of those that ate sandwiches at their desks, and continued working throughout. Well done Steve getting out this morning for your 2 miles, coughing in harmony with the bird songs 🎵 🐦⬛ I decided to take a running rest day today, as I want to try for a good parkrun time at a venue I haven't run at for many years. I've looked at last weeks results, and I think that there were eight in the 75-80 category, so could be quite a challenge 😳 I walked to and from the supermarket earlier, and will now do some stretches etc. |
