Morning all. I got to my 90th on the weekend at New Forest Marathon, so into the 'nervous nineties' now (subject to my list being vetted - it was last vetted at 75). In an ideal world I would love to do my 100th abroad somewhere, but I feel it is tricky planning these things with any certainty still. I have a few more planned this year (probably I will get to 97/99-ish this year), and then I will see how things are before setting in stone my 100th I think.

You have to get your list vetted?
Why would anyone pretend to run a marathon just to join a club for people who run marathons?
I know the murky history of those claiming records for most marathons, but are there dodgy dealings lower down the numbers list?

Sounds sensible. I only run foreign now, and I've had to bin my plans five times since I got back from Split in Feb 2020, so there's quite a risk in planning a foreign celebration, especially if you've got people coming.
Let us know what you're planning though, when you do know, I'm happy to celebrate with someone at a foreign event if it fits around my plans!

Yes, 57.5, you do have to get your list vetted, and it is thorough.

57.5, personally I am more than happy to have it vetted. I think the main rule that seems to cause some controversy is that a certain number of road marathons need to be included (again, I have no issues). In the last 18 months or so there has been bit of a fuss about if Virtuals should count or not (it was decided not, thankfully as far as I am concerned). I haven't heard of anyone cheating but I am not part of the club really as I run for my local club, and don't get involved with inner workings of the 100MC. I think I am right in saying that 100 clubs in some other countries may not be as strict in terms of what 'counts', but I don't know the details. For this club, the main thing is that results need to be produced and a certain number of people need to have started and finished(?) the race, but again I haven't personally had problems with this. I have done a small number of LDWA events and although they don't all produce results on a website, I have received a certificate or similar, and I have provided a copy of that and had no problems.
DeeGee, thanks. My last foreign one in 2020 was Marrakech in the January, and of course at that point I didn't know it would be my last one abroad for quite some time. I had to cancel a few during the pandemic, but I feel I was lucky as I didn't lose any cash in terms of flights/hotels etc. I am considering Barcelona in November this year, but I haven't booked it yet as I am still unsure. I'm 50/50 really.

Once the dates for Lanzarote this year were known, I booked flight from a local airport, Sat morning out, Tues afternoon back, and hotel. Then waited for the entries to open.
I have now entered the race, but the airline from my local airport has decided that instead of flights on Tues, Thurs and Sat, they'll just fly in and out on a Thursday, so I've now had to change my plans to a different airport in the North, with a different airline, because with the best will in the world, I can't justify a week away from the kids for five and a bit hours of jeffing.
Just need to be confident that the race will happen, if not, I'm happy to go out and drink beer in the winter sun.
Certainly plans of this sort need many different contingencies at the moment.

Very quick turnaround as always, and the 90 is all vetted. He recategorised two as road (I had them as trail), but other than that all was fine, so my ninety are official

I've never been so fearful of injury as I was for those last ten races.

Thanks for the info and we'll done on being certified Big_G.
A small part of me would like to tackle the challenge, but it'll have to wait for retirement.
