Nice point of view DG. Even though I was in my final run in to my 100 I'm feeling pretty relaxed about when it happens now.

It's odd, as at the start of this year I was hoping to get to 100 probably around October time and a lot of my plans around running were about getting to that figure. I'm on 82 and my drive to get there is not what it was - it's more "I'll get there when I get there". It's still a goal, but I suppose it's not necessarily the main goal. Over lockdown I've been doing some decent, consistent training for me and I'm starting to think about PBs again, my last of which was in 2018. For me, running some of the smaller events, and arguably too many of them, meant I got slower (and, dare I say it, I put on weight...) but I've got that thought that I've got PBs in me again. I've come to realise/remember that I like certain events (I can't help it - I prefer the larger ones) and I think I did get caught up a bit in chasing numbers to tick them off, as opposed to doing them for enjoyment. I will probably still do some of the smaller events - they're a good bunch and I've met some great people - but the emphasis has changed, for me anyway. Maybe it's partly because 18 is still some way to go so maybe if I was on 95 or something I'd be thinking differently? Who knows.

Much as I've maligned MK, I fully intended to get down there again this summer to run a Saturday and then lark about by the lake with some beer on the Sunday. I haven't been since 17 June 2017, 7 months after my 100th and my first marathon wearing the shirt! But I was nearly 6 and a half hours out on my feet that day after basically doing nothing at all running-wise since Bonfire Night 2016.
I'd love to be fit enough to just turn up and run easily for a morning, then drink all afternoon and evening like I used to, but that level of fitness is a bit beyond me at the moment.

Becca - you are right, I'd still like to get sub 3-30. 100 is more of a long-term goal. I can happily train for one target marathon a year but still complete 4-5 in a year without detracting from that. I suspect that within a couple of years I will have either completed 3-30 or abandoned it.
I think the point on chasing numbers is well made.

57.5 Degrees of Pain
I just counted in my head and came to 15 marathons and 10 Ultras in 12.5 years. I might have forgotten one or two but at this rate I'll be in my 90s.
Better than my efforts at climbing the Scottish Munros though, at my current rate I'll be 106!

Am on 86 at beginning of the year. Was aiming to complete by end of this year and have moved the target to 2022. Trying a virtual marathon tomorrow for a bit of fund raising but a bit nervous. Gonna explore some parts have not been to

DG - not sure which is more careless running round lakes in MK or getting the missus knocked up ?! on the brightside at least it was your missus
Good luck to all with their journey & has my esteemed friend from Cleethorpes has stated enjoy it & don't rush it, I see so many rush it to get it done in "X" years or before "X" birthday & burn themselves out - mentally & physically.

Some of us might feel under a bit of pressure to get ours done before our old leggies refuse to run any more, Foxy.
