According to this site if you go to the old site it will bounce you across to the NYT site and your stats should be preserved. pcgamer.com

I have the same browser tab open on my phone from the first day I played. It refreshes daily and doesn't try to redirect me. *shrugs*

I had that too but got redirected a few days ago.

Today's word was familiar to me as we've used loads of the stuff in our flat when decorating.

Today's word wasn't one I tend to use but I thought of it really quickly, whereas sometimes I can take ages over a really common word. I think sometimes you get hung up on certain letters and can't see anything else.
