JB I'm a pushover for a black Lab. Even a very naughty muddy one :-)

Black Labs are lovely, but so are chocolate ones... and so are Beagles, (did ever a dog look more like a drawing of a dog than your average Beagle?) and Border Collies, and Red Setters, and beautiful Greyhounds who look like Renaissance paintings, and Weimaraners (velvet dogs) and, and...

I like loads of dogs - mainly big ones I must admit - but I've always liked German Shepherds most of all. And after 50 years now I've got one.

Here's the most recent pic of Jess. 15 weeks old and meeting the sea this weekend. (Sorry, I'm on it too.)

Cat the Dog
She's beautiful Sharkie. I must admit to being slightly wary of German Shepherds, but I recently met a lovely one who was in training to be a Guide Dog for the blind. He was gorgeous and was very friendly.

The bonus of being a dog owner is that you get the opportunity to meet loads of lovely dogs when you are out for walkies :-)

Ta Cat. I totally understand people being nervous of GSDs - they can be scary, and a bad experience with a badly trained one will put someone off for life. I've loved wolves since I was a small child (probably a bit of a weird small child!) and 'Alsations' were the first dog I saw that I thought looked like a wolf.

As a kid we had a Collie cross, then a Cocker Spaniel then later, when I was older, a totally bonkers Beagle me and my mum took on when the family who owned him couldn't
Cope any more. Raffo, my partner, never had a dog of his own before - although he grew up with loads of animals as both his parents were RSPCA inspectors and their house was often a temporary home for various creatures. As a couple it's only recently we've had a house and garden big enough to own the sort of dog we both like. I feel a BIT guilty about the GSD though.... my choice. Raffo loves her but don't think he realised just how much work she'd be. I admit neither did I on the puppy front. Hence the thread!

Even now she's seven, living with our GSD Leah is like living with a particularly difficult toddler. She has been a pain all day for no apparent reason.

early bird
My lurcher Ollie sleeps all day and all night and constantly yawns. He is officially the laziest dog I have ever known lol. He loves nothing better than to be on the sofa with us or on the bed if he can. I can't complain at all about him he's brilliant and has only once had a mess in the house which was my fault(didn't walk him after a long car journey and put him straight in the house as I tried to sort out the car). He is a rescue and I wouldn't part with him for the world :-) I should put a pic up really. I am sat on the sofa with him asleep beside me and OH on the other side of the sofa and he makes a lovely foot warmer too ;-)

God Cyclops DON'T say that! I thought I was getting on well with not pulling on the lead and today she was back at square one. Should NOT have posted yesterday obv. Was tempting fate.

EB Ollie sounds very calm and well behaved. But who knows what he was like as a puppy! How old is he?
