Very frustrating re Indi and his new friend, D - I’m sure the novelty of having a new friend will wear off though, bless him. Try not to let it put you off going. Mazlin - no advice that you haven’t already had other than keep trying ;). He is a lovely boy ❤️

I do love him...just as well!
This morning he unclipped his lead from his harness (genuinely unclipped, it must not have been on properly, although this was at least an hour into the walk) so then he was loose on the main road through the village, right by the station, narrow pavements...and he ran a little way up and down the road while I shouted and my friend waved treats at him, then I crouched down and called him and he ran straight back to me. Bloody Hell. Freedom was obviously not all he hoped it would be

Phew! It's a very scary feeling when something like that happens, isn't it?

It's very scary. Charlie has got a lot better at recall but we still have days when the only way I can get him to come back is to turn and walk briskly away from him. He soon comes if he thinks he's going to be left behind! Then again, he hasn't really got any strong "hunter" instincts so probably wouldn't go off too far chasing things anyway.

(pressed too soon - meant to add...)
He's never been loose on a road though, and that would be a great cause for concern as he seems to have no road sense whatsoever and I'm sure he wouldn't stay on the pavements.

I just wanted to say that Ernie is often off lead but always in the woods, on the beach or similar. I realised my previous post maybe suggested I have him off lead everywhere. He can't be trusted near the road. I'm glad Rory's freedom was short lived Maz. An excellent time to show you he can recall
Ernie has inexplicably developed a limp. Front left paw. He's been for 3 walks today and no sign of lameness and then at dinner time he started holding it up and then limping. Will see how it is next day or two before vet visit.

I assume you have checked his pads for any foreign bodies? My vet says only visit straight away for lameness if the dog cant bear weight on the leg, hope he is better in the morning.
