We had a big bullmastiff who used to do that, D2. He gave lovely hugs. He used to run over to unsuspecting fishermen and hug them from behind when they caught a fish and their hands were full of fishing rod. Mr GM used to be mortified 😂😂

Wanda is such a good dog, I'm so glad to hear that the new muzzle is not troubling here.

I do laugh at Indi's antics but I sympathise with his jumping up. Dexter does it as well but he is very good if manage to shout 'down' in time!

Stella pogo jumps in front of rather than on people when she's excited! Try as I might to discourage this behaviour (I turn my back on her, and wait until she's sitting down before I pat her), my daughter thinks it's hilarious and encourages her to jump when I'm not there.

Jet pogo jumps when Mr and I have a hug. "Me too, me too!" It's hilarous.

I've sort of reduced Ralph's jumping up by getting him to jump up to me on command - so he got so used to me asking for a big hug that eventually he stopped doing it if he's not asked to. --- almost, there is is still the odd rambler on the greensand ridge who gets the full jump up treatment, but he's not so bad these days.

For some reason everyone else's dog wants to jump up at me "oh s/he never nprmally does that" is something I near almost every run .........

I only lurk here from time to time - so not sure if it is good form to post gratuitous cute pictures, but I'm going to do it anyway...

We had a spectacularly unsuccessful (dog) adoption in the summer - where the black lab that had been described as having 'a bit of a wonky gate', and 'is a bit funny with males but loves the ladies' turned out to have a completely paralysed back leg, be doubly incontinent and very reactive to our geriatric laid back lady great dane. And my wife was on the receiving end of some pretty unpleasant behaviour from the agency.

Roll forward a few months and we have just started fostering an 8 month old lab with hip dysplasia. He's waiting until he is old enough for an operation, although the prognosis is not great.

Here he is settling in on his first night with us:

And his now favourite place to sleep:

Cute as he is, he pulls like mad, and seems to think it's his right to charge through doors first - so a bit of work to do while he's with us!

Awww :-) Always happy to see a great dog photo EdJ!

That's a bit alarming to hear about the failed dog adoption and the agency's behaviour. Is it a national fostering agency? I'd hate to think of people's goodwill, and dog's lives, being treated so badly across the board.

I wasn't aware there were operations available to treat hip dysplasia. When you say the outlook's not great for him (:-( because he's very very sweet) what mobility will he have afterwards, do you know?

(I'm interested because Flossie has always has a transient limp now, after a long walk or a madcap bit of chasing around. The vet says she thinks it's a hip issue but not worth doing anything about because it wears off so quickly, ie within 5 minutes, and doesn't seem to cause her any discomfort at all. We're aware though that as she gets older it might start to be more of a problem.
