Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Glad Jet is basically ok. Funny about the vets, although we've had similar with Jess. She was fine for ages then a new vet who was in charge of her spaying was over nervous of Shepherds ... Cue restraints, anxiety and muzzling and one very nervous dog afterwards.

Fortunately the last time we went we saw the head vet and he went a long way to restoring Jess' confidence. He didn't bother with any restraints, everything was quick, easy and relaxed.

Jess biggest fear is of being 'trapped'. She is a pretty suspicious character!

People from our vets are the judges at a local dog show next weekend - I hope the one Wanda doesn't like isn't judging the waggiest tail :-)

Tee Hee Baroness.

I mustn't make Jess sound like a gunpowder keg of nerves... See my blog today for just how far she's come on. :-)

I think after our last vet visit Ernie is likely to be slightly wary. The vet stuck his fingers down his throat, a thermometer up his bum and had a feel of his plums. Violated!! Funnily enough we went in thinking splinter in throat but vet suspected kennel cough. The cough was gone by the end of the day so I think it was indeed splinter related. I hope Jet recovers soon.

Completely forgot to say that we met a 14 week old german shepherd bear today. Paler than Indi and I suspect more woofy and less sociable. He was beautiful and looked huge compared to Ernie (who was lovely and calm and inquisitive). We also met a giant 10 month old thing which a google search suggests might have been a blue great dane. It was its first time on the beach and it was a bit over-exuberant. Poor Ernie coped rather well considering but its owners really ought to have more control.

we met lots of dogs today at the local reservoir activity centre touristy place.... mostly fine especially a tiny spaniel type puppy called Ebony.... gave me a little gulp when I heard her name! She and Indi had a bit of a play in the lake together.

We walked back through the visitors centre and he was a bit spooked by some sparrows and the sound of the air hand dryer coming from one of the loos but took everything else in his stride. I have been using everything we see as training aids; the bike racks were great as weaving poles and I taught him to walk along the top of a little narrow wall about 2 ft off the ground, bless him he is so brave but not brave enough to turn round on top of the wall. He was better behaved this evening. :) Glad Jet is ok.

Sounds like a lovely experience for you both. It's nice when they find a nice pup to play with isn't it. Such joy!

We've had some interesting encounters which don't feature on the socialisation list in our puppy book. Bagpipes and fighter jets zooming overhead don't get a mention. I can't imagine why.

How do you get medicine into a dog that is fed on kibble and is suspicious of anything 'hidden' in cheese/peanut butter? This morning I held the tablet up and pretended it was a treat and made him work for it. He was so excited that he took it, crunched and ate it, and *hopefully* didn't realise it was good for him ;-) Will it work again tonight...?

Mr has commented on the fact that Jet has been glued to me since yesterday's vet visit. I wonder what he is thinking?

I can usually get Wanda to take a tablet if I pretend it is a treat and ask her to work for it - if she gets suspicious I perhaps get her to do 2 or 3 things and use cheese, sausage or liver cake but the second treat has the pill squashed into it! Good luck

Squirting the syringe of medicine straight into her mouth for her upset stomach recently was a whole different ball game though ;-)
