I just checked they're part of what used to be a steel mill, the mill was shut in 2008 before the summer Olympics because of the pollution it used to spew out.
Apparently it's a gree eco regeneration area!

That's quite cool then actually. I did presume it wasn't just a working facility otherwise it would have been a very very odd location to choose.
BBC iPlayer coverage has been good so far - I've been getting in at the end of the day and using their "must see" 15-20 minute programmes on the key medal events to catch up with the best bits.
