Just made the mistake of reading some of the comments on the bbc. It just blows my mind that so many disparaging and downright hostile remarks can be written about a sportsperson who has just bust her guts and missed her goal and understandably got a bit upset. SHe finished so much slower than she knows she can do and is the worlds best at this sport - hence all the coverage.
Mara did amazing as did Liz Yelling and it was brilliant to see the all the british ladies finishing so well. I can only assume the press and joe bloggs simply have ZERO understanding of what it takes to compete in the marathon.
Lots of comments about her only doing it for the money - like duh it is her job after all.
I genuinely dispair at the great british public. Do they have a NEED to find people to knock down to make their own lives seem better?

Totally agree - BBc, Press and a lot of the public just do not want to umndestand - and the em otion of finishing a marathon is very raw - I cried when I finished london and it takes me twice as long as Paula!!!!!!

I'm refusing to read any of those bad things about our Marathon girls particularly Paula. When the BBC went to interview her after the race, seeing Paula trying desperately not to cry but failing was quite heart wrenching TBH.
This wasn't a woman who had done this for money this was a woman who has got a dream, a dream that drives her run until she causes a stress fracture in her femur. To then go on and defy EVERY SINGLE medical opinion given to her by making it to the start line of that marathon.
Cruelly that dream was again snatched from her in that race.....it is making me sick that the British Public can't see this.

Anyone who comments on the performance of any athlete, no matter what sport, without having knowledge or experience of that sport and all it's training requirements is a tosser.

Paula shold not have run she was advised by all the experts, she should have withdrawn and the selectors should given Haley Haining the chance who has run 3h 24m this year, i may be bias but i feel for Haley, shes 35 and may not ge the chance again.
