Velociraptor
I didn't manage to stay awake beyond 1am and am only just catching up.
Well done to ALL our women, and I'm particularly delighted by Mara's result.
I'm sure the same old hacks were standing by waiting to pounce on Paula when she ran New York, and she took the wind from their sails then. She's a shrewd lady who hasn't hesitation to pull out of big races in the past if circumstances hadn't been right, and I am sure that she DID have a chance of winning a medal today, or she wouldn't have been there. But long-distance races aren't always easy to call ...
"Partial redemption" indeed. Surely redemption depends upon having sinned? Insolent journo!

Well done British athletes. Congrats to Mara. Paula and Liz my heart goes out to you both. I cried buckets for Paula. Just watched the clip on the BBC website and cried again. When are they going to stop bringing up Athens for Paula. I thought Post Mortems were for the dead!!!!!!!!!!

Widger
tiredy widger today, I'm so glad I watched it though.
I do feel for Mara a little she had an amazing run, but its almost like though she isn't accepted as being a 'proper' brit.
The thing about Paula is that for some reason out of the running community she doesn't seem to be liked. I know that the British press have a reputation for building up stars and then knocking them down but in all honesty every time she races I feel like they are almost 'wanting' her to fail. She has had an amazing career yet bizzarely they only ever seem to focus on the bad bits. The arguement with her husband track side, the 'toilet stop' in FLM, dropping out of Athens and now seemingly going into the Olympic marathon underprepared.....I really feel for her.
Oh and my query is, Dita took what they said was a carbohydrate quite near the end. She definitely put it to each nostril and snorted it (looked like she was sniffing poppers to me ) What was this?

Well I stayed up and watched it all - and brill race from Mara - wonderful for Liz u ntil she fell - did you all think that those barriers were going to cause someone to fall ??? and the course narrowed stupidly in parts - as for Paula - I love her and she did marvellously - didn't think she would medal this time after her injury but the main thing is she finished why oh why do some of our Press report the way they do - I do not think they understand long distance running - especially at the top end - yes Paula is over the injury - but not done the mileage yet to be " race fit" Once again congrats to our 3 Brits -I feel great today - just so sorry for Paula and Liz

that is just it, the press and the non-running people don't understand our sport. We all know what an amazing run all three had for different reasons and we should be proud of them:-)
