I know very little about whiskey or whisky. A guy I work with is retiring and appreciates a nice single malt 'sweet rather than peaty' - what would you suggest would be suitable as part of his leaving gift?

Thanks.

I'm a huge fan of Penderyn, the Madeira cask aged one in particular is just what he describes.

Also, being a slightly less well known, but still widely available, label it might not be one he already knows.

I'm a fan of the Edradour 10 year old. Aged in bourbon and sherry casks, also fits your bill.

Any of the speyside/east highland ones, main brands that I suspect few would be upset with. And probably the standard or 12 year plus versions, not flavoured or new fangled versions. eg mainstream
Glenlivet
Macallan
Glenmorangie
Glenfiddich

Or if you want something a bit less main stream, here's a fairly good summary

I used to be a malt whisky collector, but they never lasted long enough!

DoricQuine
raasaydistillery.com

Isle of Raasay is a bit special and comes in a really nice bottle.

I'm no connoisseur but am quite partial to a Glenfarclas, which I think could fit the bill.

The Glens seem to the popular choice . OH also likes a Glenfarclas

Jura? Quite sweet.

I am more of a peat fan myself...

Penderyn is local to me. Welsh rather than Scottish.
