Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Thanks all. As it's for part of his retirement gift I was looking for something a bit more 'special' than the Glenmorangie/Glenfiddich (which he did mention when we were talking generally about favoured tipples) so some great suggestions.

Old Pulteney is my favourite malt. Described as dry smooth redolent of honey and cream. Although mrs HT says it tastes of whiskey

Personal opinion: if it's to be a special gift then a 15-year old whisky is usually markedly better than a 12. Also usually, the older the better, but it can get expensive...

As others have already said, Speyside/East Highlands are probably the right type of taste for him.

My father in law is a whisky fan... he does like the Penderyn as something a bit nice and different.

People are quite particular about single malts, but I always liked Royal Salute and top level Chivas. Irish wise Redbreast is good and starts at 12 years I think.

The Whisky Exchange is a good bet for narrowing down choices by flavour.

You can buy most things on Amazon at decent prices.

[not a huge whisky drinker but worked in the booze industry for a while so got to try quite a few different things, I also don't like strong peaty flavours.]

Got something to say?

I know very little about whiskey or whisky. A guy I work with is retiring and appreciates a nice single malt 'sweet rather than peaty' - what would you suggest would be suitable as part of his leaving gift?

Thanks.
