Just done donation number 13.
7 mins 15 - that’s slow, isn’t it? Not that it matters.

I had a failed donation on 31 December due to low iron count which resulted in me being banned for a year. But I’m currently on 530 donations (I donated platelets for many years and those donations count as 2) so feel like I’ve done my bit for a while.

Bob!
one failed donation = one year ban? If so, that sounds a bit OTT to me.

It’s because my iron count was particularly low and I was referred to my GP.

I’ve had a years ban too as iron level was classed as anaemic. Also referred to GP. Given course of high dose iron tablets.

I’ve just been prescribed folic acid at the moment as don’t have any symptoms of anaemia.

Thank you HappyG. I’ve been donating for over 30 years, a lot of that time on platelets which, when you do it once a month and each donation counting as 2, the numbers clock up relatively quickly.
