Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Hmm no but yes.

My training this year was for helvellyn triathlon this year and hence no long runs.

I've done Lakeland50 ultra, tris and kielder marathon last year in 4.08.

So 2 marathons nowhere near your potential and complaining that 8.45 was slow which implies when you do long runs you run too fast.

Sounds like you need a training overhaul if you plan to do a marathon properly.

How do you calculate this? According to every predictor I've used I'm seriously underachieving at marathon distance. What marathon time should I aim for if I have a 1.34 half PB (on a hilly course - Keswick)? The best (flat) marathon I've done is 3.32, but my training is a bit ad hoc :)

Or are some people just better at shorter distances?

Fizz :-)
Jacdaw, if you look at the link on the previous page, Fetch has a "real-world" marathon time predictor which, funnily enough, predicts a 3:32-ish marathon from a 1:34 half.

Gobi's predictions would be closer to the Riegel 1.06 factor, for people who have the drive to win and time/commitment to train "properly".

Thanks Fizz, that seems to answer my question exactly.

I should probably do more training.
