Not do much a smile as a proper Tony Blair rictus of terror as I tackle an automatic for the first time in 50 years of driving. My friends and my kids tell me I'll be fine. I know my limitations but arthritis is making gear-shifting more difficult so the switch to an automatic will help.

Interestingly, I think I actually got better, not worse, from their lack of care and treatments! Then again, I may also be inadvertently at deaths door... what will be, will be... I have given up fussing over things I have obviously no control over. As long as they don't re-posess my house before I die.
