meg, the kitty parties *might* have been influenced by the fact that we had cat nip to tempt one rather errant cat to come home more regularly. all the neighbourhood kitties quite liked it too.... they would lie there all stoned. was very funny. however, it pissed off the other cat a lot. which made him escalate his campaign of violence against all the local wildlife - hence the bird innards, the mice (did i mention the mice??) and the seagull.
forgot about the mice. found lots of dead ones. but one day I was cleaning the kitchen. I had been thinking for a while that the dry cat food was getting eaten rather quickly - we were going through a lot of it. as I pulled out the cooker to sweep behind it, I found little mountains of cat food. hmmmmmm. rattled about a bit further and the FATTEST MOUSE I HAD *EVER* SEEN waddled out. his tummy was soooooooo big his legs could hardly move. hence the waddling.
anyway. it was still a mouse. and although i wasn't scared of it, I couldn't catch the little bugger with my hands. so I confess to doing something really awful. i blocked off anywhere he could hide and shut the door. I waited for a cat to come home and then picked it up and chucked it in the kitchen and closed the door.
several minutes and much scuffling later, i heard him scrabbling to get out. i opened the door and there he was with a little tail hanging out of his mouth. he gave a great big gulping swallow..... and it was gone.

aaah stumpys seagull story is great- can just imagine the cat being all excited about bringing such a huge gift home only to discover it just aint gonna happen im assuming the seagull was by then dead and not flapping away- them things are huge!!
i was sad when my old cat brought a robin home i didnt like that at all -very anti christmas i thought
my cats have never had cat partys but many a time (when we had a catflap) we'd hear a huge commotion and some randard cat had strayed in through it in the middle of the night!

Pmsl @ the seagull and the really fat mouse stories. I really don't miss the 'presents'. The bird hunting was a spring time mission. It happened so regularly at that time of year, I used to dread coming home from work to find a trail of feathers and resulting gift - if he hadn't already eaten it!

My cats brought in a shrew and countless birds. I managed to rescue one bird because she brought it to show us while it was in her mouth.
Even with a bell on her collar she's clever enough to catch them.
Don't agree that toms hunt more. In my lifetime I've had 4 cats. 3 were girls and they all hunted. The tom was like a normal bloke and sat around doing nothing all day.

Ha ha, really chuckling at your stories Stumpy and the idea of cats stoned on catnip!
We once had a rather odd smell in our kitchen, like a rotting cabbage or perhaps mouse. We looked everywhere and moved the washing machine etc. Eventually we found a dead, partially liquefied mouse inside the wok (which was sitting under the hob on top of some boxes and rarely used). Must have climbed in then been unable to get out. We threw the wok away. We were about to go on holiday so were glad to have located the source! When we got back from holiday I'd managed to turn off the freezer and all the contents was rotten, was worse than the mouldy mouse! Oops!

awwwww! poor mouse!! Man's mother said she had a load of huge bottles in her garage and kept meaning to block the necks so nothing could climb in. too late she remembered and found a little mummified mouse in the bottom of one of them. all curled up tight
