57.5 Degrees of Pain
Same for me, a day of work then 3 hours in the car. At least my parents live near the start which is easier than a hotel.

Mrs s will also be wearing a great big smile - like the cover girl that the stoney ladies all are (was that WHW or Fling cover pic from last year?) :-) G

Well, it's all getting very real now - just 2 big training weeks left for me (due to long taper and some family duties).

My final big weekend will be the training weekend 23/24 May. I've seen a post that says Saturday will have an option from Tyndrum to Inversnaid and back (38 miles?) which would be ideal for me. The Sunday, I think I'd like to do about the same - was thinking of Tyndrum to Glencoe and back, which is about 36? I'll see if there are any takers on the Sunday.

How's everyone feeling? Santa, RWR had fab Fling, obviously, so that must give big confidence. Not having an equivalent test or marker race, it's hard for me to tell what kind of shape I'm in. But if feeling pretty knack'd and constantly worrying that something that is aching or tired is threatening to become an injury, then I'm in great shape!!

I've ended up with a bit less than I'd hoped for in terms of weekend back to backs and total mileage, but it is what it is. These last few weeks have been all about hills, as I've decided that's what I'm weakest at, so long slow miles, with quite a lot of fast walking up steeper stuff. So lots of time and some ascent, if not as many miles. Absolutely no speed at all. I even DNS the 5km champs at Silverknowes last Wed to go for 10 miles up the Pentlands with club mates in the wind and rain! I had done my first ever hill reps the day before with a club mate, there was just no point in turning up for a 5km, where I'd probably be about 5 mins out side my PB!

So, next weekend instead of 25 + 35, I'll dial it back to maybe 22 + 32 and see how that goes. Then a rest week to pick up niece who is arriving from New Zealand to stay in Europe for 6 months - a year, which is great. Then the training weekend, then taper starts. I know it's a bit of a long taper, but I like a bit of rest! And I'll still be doing reasonable miles, and might do some shorter faster stuff, just to keep legs ticking over. Really looking forward to the rest. Oh, and the race too of course!!

Any updates any of you have would be great to read. Cheers, :-) G

The final training weekend will be my final big weekend too HappyG. I am planning on going Tyndrum - Glencoe and back on the Saturday as it's a section I don't know too well. I will also run on the Sunday but I was actually considering going from KLL - FW or Lundavra for similar reasons. Much as I'd love the company of the bulk of the group I need to use the time on the route to my best advantage and cover what I don't know well. MrKynon will be going too so he ought to be able to help me out with a lift to KLL. Maybe I will stay in FW by myself Sunday night as he will need to get back to work.

All in all I'm feeling good, but terrified. Which I think is normal.

RWR, I was going to try and drag some family up for the weekend (not just to try and get a lift back to Tyndrum, honest!) Was vaguely thinking of asking them to pick me up from Fort Bill too, maybe BoO to FW or something. Will have to see what options there are on the weekend.

Santa, I've not managed to hit any of my mileage targets yet. Wanted to be over 30 by now, but only managed 30 yesterday. :-) G

My training has been somewhat lacking lately but I decided if I had a crap run at fling weekend (not racing), run down the route to meet with sweepers and then I swept to Rowardennan and then back down to Balmaha myself and felt tip top. 35 miles with a double conic hill and then a 6 mile run 2 days after up to Swanley in Stoney. RWR will testify that it's all uphill!. Did a few more speed hill sessions since and feel great. Got a cracking support team for whw so i'm going to go for it. Maybe it will be muscle memory and determination to do it for Dod but i'm up for it now. Head in the right place. Once the Cateran is over then I can have a few weeks of just concentrating on a hard push for a few weeks.

Great news Lintie, the Stoney ladies are going to have a ball!

Happy G I had a fab Fling too, I was running with 4 friends doing it for the first time and I felt great and really enjoyed it. My slowest Fling but probably most enjoyable and it has whetted my appetite for the whw race.

This weekend I'm running the longest, hilliest leg of the Kintyre Way ultra (15 miles) with 5 Stoney ladies :-). Doing strathearn Mara too. Can't wait for whw race now!

Great news Lintie and mrs s, sorry, I didn't mean to imply you didn't have a good Fling, but I knew you were running with friends, so it wasn't a barometer for you for the WHW particularly. Well done for running with your pals. Good luck with kintyre way relay and Strathearn mara. That's a good load of racing as training too.

Lintie, I'm so excited that this means I'll get to get my goblet (because I *will* get my goblet) in a year that you, Sants and so many other wonderful folk that I know will be there too. Just fab. :-) G
