What do people use? I cuurently use the Montane Velo H2O which is not very waterproof.

Bit of googling suggests that the Marmot Precip, Outdoor Research Helium 2, Montane Minimus and Marmot Essence are good options. The last two are expensive.

The four jackets are reviewed here: outdoorgearlab.com

Are there any other good options as this weekend might be the best time to pick up a bargain.

Thanks.

Gore Running Wear make quite a few waterproof jackets that all look the same to me, but manage to be priced differently. The one I have is very good - it's a jacket, it's waterproof.

Personally, I can't see the point of waterproof running jackets. They just make me sweat even more than normal, I'm going to have a shower when I get home and my kit's goiing in the washing machine. So why try to keep it dry?

I went for a lovely run in the rain on Tuesday in just a vest and shorts. Lovely! :-)

I have a Gore version that I wore for a while but soon moved to a gilet and long sleeve vest. Windproof is better than waterproof, you get wet but not cold. We have too humid a climate for the material to transmit sweat so you just get wet inside aka boil in the bag. eLBee is worth chatting with for good advice via fmail on this subject, he may pop in too

My thinking was for an easy run there must be something that can keep you fairly dry? I accept for harder efforts there's little point.

I have a standard windproof montane featherlite as well as the Velo H2O.

I got a black (orange zip) OMM Kamleika full zip jacket a few years ago in a big sale (it might have just been about to be 'revamped'). It's so smart that you can wear it for non-running too :-)

Don't like running in a jacket - so I got a karrimor one for £6 in case of downpours - Does the job.

I find my Velo H2O plenty waterproof enough provided I re-proof it from time to time, but heart my OMM Kamleika jacket for when I need proper water resistance.

Unless you're out on the Scottish hills, I don't think a water proof jacket helps at all.

Keeping the wind out is important, so with the caveat above, a Montane windproof satisfies my requirements, in fact during the inaugural Phoenix marathon when it poured from start to finish that was a great solution for me. Didn't get cold, others DNF'd due to getting cold.

I have a mountain equipment firefly, which I got for FRA based things that require something fully seam-sealed with a hood.

Its very comfortable and light and doesn't rustle, but like any of these things it is very warm. Even a gentle jog will have you sweating in it. I only wear it when it is absolutely hammering down AND cold, otherwise just a windproof and a good base layer.

The Kamleika always seems to be 'the best' when people start talking, but I am very happy with mine.
