i had a guy from my club comment on my facebook status saying id just booked edinburgh that its too soon for me to run a marathon- i said that come may 2011 i would have been running consistantly for 2 half years- he said "get a 1.45 half before you consider it".....whats your thoughts???

Please don't listen to him if he indeed said it in the spirit you suggest. If you want to complete your first marathon, it's meaningless what time you complete a half in. Yes, if your goal was a certain marathon time but methinks you just want the feeling and enjoyment of completing your first. I've never gone below the time he suggests and have completed marathons and much longer tabs just to run and enjoy. You will know when you are ready. It depends what you want out of it really. But it's nobody else's place to tell you what to do in terms such as that guy did.
In all honesty though, I wish I hadn't tried marathons yet. And I've been running a few years.
