Latest email from nicola and my response in full:
Hi Nicola,
Yes - thank you - I have been able to register with the ballot, and looking at the message boards on fetcheveryone.com, most people have been able to register today, albeit slowly, and with a lot of repeated hits on the website. A lot of people were also dropping the s from the https prefix in order to register with an unsecured page, rather than go through the https version, presumably choosing to expose their personal details at the expense of a faster registration process. I am sure this was not an intended consequence - but given the very strong feelings that many runners have over their entry into the (in my humble opinion) best and most famous race in the world - perhaps it is not entirely surprising?
Thank you for your replies - it's nice to know there is another human being at the end of the email address. We (on Fetch) imagine that your inbox was perhaps a little full and rather depressing this morning?
:0)
I realise a witch-hunt over the 'guilty party' is not going to help the runners out there trying to get into the ballot. I also appreciate how fiendishly complex a web based registration system might be. I know from personal experience, that it is sometimes unfortunately part of the job description to be the public face of a system that has been forced into a live state by management deadlines, without proper testing, and in the face of concerns raised by staff on the project.
Just let your Development Manager(s) know that we can see what they didn't do properly.... we may be runners, but we're not entirely uneducated.
The good name of Virgin is now a little tarnished in the eyes of many of the folk who will be running the 2010 VLM. Hopefully it will be fully restored over the coming months, and on the big day of 25th April 2010.
Anyway - keep up the good work.
Kind regards,
H

Regarding calling the number - I spent the whole of yeterday on redial & it was always engaged In theory applying next week shouldn't make any difference to my chances - yes?

Bob!

The ballot will close when it has 120,000 entries. There were emails from London Marathon yesterday that 70,000 entries had been received. I doubt if it will still be possible to enter the ballot next week.

If they managed to register 5,000 entries on Monday with all the problems on the website, and 70,000 yesterday (was 75,000 at 7pm yesterday afternoon) I would deduce that this means they're likely to hit the 120,000 mark sometime later today.

The mass rush is mostly out of the way now so you'll find that the remaining places take a little while to fill up. That being said, I could be wrong and would personally enter sooner rather than later just to be on the safe side.
