Turns out my exploding tyre is an original with the car as is the other rear - 71000 miles worth of use, getting them both replaced as a precaution even though the other is still road legal, had the fronts done at 48000 and assumed it was the rears and the fronts had been done earlier.

Saw the cardiologist today who said no immediate treatment needed but told me to come back in a year for another check on a slightly distended aorta and warned me we might need to consider blood thinners in nine years’ time.
