Cross Country. I died of terminal shiteness. It’s a horrible way to go.

The tri club are entering a team for the cross country league I fancy giving it a go, I hear it is good for building running strength.

If you like turning your shoes into representations of wattle-and-daub cottages give XC a go. I did the county series one year. Race 1: lulled into false sense of security as the race took place on Adam-off-of-Countryfile's farm, and mud was not much in evidence that high on the Cotswolds. The final race took place in fields outside Tewkesbury - the town that floods at the slightest drop of rain - and thanks to the mud and straw accrued I was a good stone heavier at the end than I was at the start. I should have realised, when old hands warned me either to wear no socks, or socks I didn't mind binning at the end of the race.

Evening mud loving heroes, IBR.
New PRs over both one and two miles on that other place, though since I only started using it after the titanium reinforcement that's an encouragement but k not really an achievement.

Ours was an utter slog. Running round the edge of fields was the worst, on that narrow strip of sloping land that farmers leave between field and hedge. The sloppy, slidey mud trails were a relief after that and then we had a bit that went straight across a ploughed field which was worse than both.....
A few lags were calling it ‘proper cross country’......

That sounds exactly like the race I was talking about, TRO. I suspect it's where the 'Tough Mudder' type folk got the idea.
