I also looked at the turbo trainer in the shed.
Just looked mind, I'm not completely mental.

Might be difficult TRO. When I looked at the turbo, there was no sign of a bike

Interesting read Gobi - I'm in Glenner's shoes though - I'll never get to the pointy end so it's all about enjoyment and lower systolic pressure. It doesn't sound like AG racing will be fun if you don't like the people.

[ties in with tennis - I’m good enough to compete at a modest level, just not sure I like the people]

The thing is winning a Euro or World may be good for my future coaching plans but I'm not even sure I want to pursue the coaching either right now.
Mtb distance racing and CX are a lot of fun and hard. I'm also a nobody at both of them and that brings it's own challenge

Winning a Euro or a World would be excellent for coaching credentials, but it’s not the be all and end all. I know some superb swim coaches that have never troubled the pointy end (yet their protégés have). Sometimes the “do-ers” lack the mental capacity to analyse, plan and personalise training regimes.
But it certainly doesn’t do you any harm to be able to say you won something big.

Triathlete/ duathlete types seem to respond well to doers. This is from feedback and chats with people who use coaches.
I coached a lot if runners when I was a descent runner.
Picked up triathletes as a solid duathlete but have also not got some good clients because they went with a "brand" ( oh well he won xxxx)
Got a few back later who realised good athletes are not always good coaches.
