I would add this statement Doubles are not worth bothering with while your weekly mileage is below 50 |

I only do a double session on a friday 2-4 miles to work then anything form 4-6 back with some hills, i'm not sure how much benefit i gain except i'm home an hour after i finish which helps with the run/home life balance! Also means i get up an hour earlier when the rest of the house is asleep = peace & quiet

I regularly do more than one session, due to the fact I commute by foot and bike. Don't know about training benefit, but it feels fantastic to have been out twice. |

Crave
I know the science says a single is better than a double, but Malmo on Lets Run is always banging on about this not being the case. This guy is a former American record holder in the steeplechase and half-marathon and came up with the "summer of malmo" (http://pih.bc.ca/summerofmalmo.html). There are so many discussions about it over there (e.g. http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=3965743). He reckons the long run is overrated and doubles are ALWAYS better than singles (whatever the distance). The only problem is his main argument seems to be that all the best runners run doubles or triples and he doesn't really say much more than that... Loads of discussion here as well - scienceofrunning.com So afer reading a load of this stuff, I'm gonna experiment after my marathon for a couple of months - double 4/5 days a week on a mileage of about 60ish. |
