Hi everyone, My gilfriend asked me to help her to start running so im after some tips that could help her out. She used to go to curves for 10sessions towards the end of last year, and would go out walking with me and the dog a few times a week. She is going to be going toa parkrun in the near future and wants to be able to run all of it, if not most of it. So far we have been out and done 1. 1minute on 1min off for 23minutes 1.83miles 2. 10x1minute on 1 minute off, then finishing with 3mins15secs on. Total 23mins 15secs for 2miles 3. 3x1.5mins on 45secs off, 8x1min15sec on 45sec off (static), 1x3mins on, 1minute off, 2.5mins on Thats been the 3 sessions for for. The off has been a walk unless started. She hasnt had to stop during any of the run sections for far and pace is consistant. Has anyone any tips or advice I can use? Dont want to be trying too much to soon with her, and dont want to do anything that would put her off doing it Thanks in advance ![]() |

Lyra OK
Wonderful that she's joining you! I always direct people to Couch-to-5K, because it's worked so well for many people I know: coolrunning.com Wish her all the best from me and get her signed up to Fetch. ![]() |

C25K plan. Done it myself when I started and then with my OH when she started running. My OH found it infinitely easier when I ran with her. She still does. Although with the kids it is very hard, I do try and make sure that she doesn't go for more than a couple of runs on her own before we run together again. Just the company and support seems to be key for her.

Perfect thank you, will get that printed off and start following that. Looking at it she may be ok to start at week 4. Thanks Lyra, she sits with me when logging my training so will show her this threadd ![]() Running Circles - I have been running with her each time so far and plan to continue that. Talking to see how hard she is working and she said she would be more likely to stop if i wasnt there. But I ran on for the 8x1.15secs so she could figure out pacing for herself and was managing the 200m in 1.14-1.16secs each time |

Agree with all of the above, definitely. I hope you can encourage your girlfriend to keep it up - it's shallow I know, but there's always the promise of a new piece of running kit as an incentive...works for me ![]() I run with my husband every now and again and it's brilliant, even though we are by no means 'matched' in terms of speed! It's those shared moments to chat with no distractions, when we can run along the river and see the wildlife, especially the deer, that's always nice. We stop and look at the views rather than being fixated on pounding the pavement or getting from A to B as fast as we can. Hope the Parkrun is just the beginning, it certainly changed my life when we started 10 years ago ![]() |

Our (my) running club have put in a team to win the Belfast Marathon relay, we should be winning it but the first 3 team all get £100 voucher for each member. So I told he if we come 1st, 2nd or 3rd that she can use the voucher to get her gait done and get a proper pair of runners becuase she is using her mums and they are 1 size too big But I agree Still running, itsgood to get out and away form normal distractions, plus my dog somes aswell and runs beside us which she likes. |

get her shoes sorted now Alan - if she's wearing someone elses that are the wrong size you're setting her up for an injury that will put her off for life

Couch to 5k is brilliant. And there's an app. Proper shoes first though, she can spend £100 on other kit.
