I'm guessing that refers to the Budapest Treaty, under which Ukraine gave up its nukes in return for security guarantees from Russia and the UK, and possibly others. So not comparable to the Munich agreement. Happy to be proved wrong though. Allowing Putin to keep any of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts and Crimea would be today's appeasement 1938 style. |

I saw a programme recently that suggested chamberlain's approach bought us time to re-arm ourselves, albeit at the cost of Poland and the other countries that got invaded. But maybe that's for another thread.

The problem with that theory is the rout at Dunkirk caused, in part, by the er lack of re armament.

I shouldn't laugh, really I shouldn't, but ... This is a "hotline" set up by Ukraine for the families of Russian soldiers. "Is your husband, son, father, in the war in Ukraine? This bot will help you to get the 'coffin money' sooner and buy that white Lada". Apparently it's had nearly 900 responses |

If it helps undermine Russian support then its worth it. I'm guessing we may well see some sort of audacious raid in the next 8 days given ukraines record so far. |

Been reading some very interesting analysis on some Former Spooks forums about the Russian airforces ORBAT (all unclassified btw), all of which is very well-founded, I know a lot of these guys personally and they know their stuff. Word is that the Russians have very few serviceable GA aircraft left and I can well believe it, there aren't many aircraft easier to shoot down than the old SU24s/25s, they ECM capabilities are crap. Mutts - have you heard anything along these lines mate?

No, but I'm not plugged into those networks. The state TV propaganda often features Su-25s and Ka-52s, as if they're dishing it out with no return fire. And says the ground troops are advancing steadily in the east. Interestingly, the naval infantry units that apparently got wiped out the other week were showcased this week. Well, individual gun emplacements credited to them were. From what I know of the Russian air force the aircraft can be quite capable but the tactics and the aircrew skills lag behind. |

So Joe Biden visits Kyiv. Can't be a clearer gesture of support than that, really.

Can you imagine if Moscow had tried to take him out with a missile!
