I think that's been in every magazine I've had from the London Marathon.

I last ran the London Marathon in 2007 and hyponatraemia was mentioned in the magazine then. Hyponatraemia in marathon runners became a well publicised phenomenon in the mid-noughties. In my first year (2002) the advice was still, "Drink, drink, drink and then drink some more."

compartmental
While I agree it may not be “new” advice to runners, there will be enough people who are new to big events or the distance that I was glad to see it there.

My frustrations were purely logistical and a expression of my nerves as much as anything else. My other half reminded me that my plans made weeks ago would get me to Blackheath (as Windsor said) at the earliest time I could possibly be required so if I get an extra half hour in bed so be it. I would still like to have my travel nailed down but I accept I will then start questioning my shoe choice or something else…

That was my point really compartmental👍

Glad you’ve seen the positives about the potential later start time and you’re so right, there’s always something else to fret over. We can start getting excited about tube and bus strikes soon too😎

Splendid work Rrunner👏👏👏

Based on that, I forecast a severe outbreak of whinging about the heat with outbreaks of dismay over humidity. This will be followed by persistent reminders of “2018” for the foreseeable future.

ha ha. love it when the nerves kick in. I always say getting the excuses in way too early is what makes you a real runner

They have certainly been mentioning not to drink too much in previous years, but that would be surrounded by statements about drinking X ml per hour to completely contradict that statement.

This year is the first time they left out the drink X ml bit. Them specifying a target amount, which was quite a lot and based on how much people sweat I think rather than how much you would need to drink, made it dangerous for their target audience of relative beginners who were looking for any nugget of advice they could get. Delighted to see them fixed that content in the final instructions magazine at last.

For novice marathon runners I expect that as they would see a drink station (all 20+ of them) they would think well if there's a drink station we should get a drink.

So it's a tricky subject to give advice on how much to actually drink on the day.
