That’s the one. My nan always told me that if we kept it alive our finances would be fine. I think the fact that it’s just about hanging on in there is a perfect reflection of our monetary position.

This cactus has been on our window sill for so many years that no--one can remember how we came to have it. For the first time, two years ago, it produced a single flower. A cynic said that was its swan-song. Last year, it spent thinking about its options. This year it produced another flower on my birthday. I love the way the flower has to force its way through its spiny defences.

Quite a lot of those 100+ are succulents and are only a few cms across.
This is two Strelitzia Reginae, I sowed the seeds of these around the time my youngest son was born, in January 2000. In October 2018, they finally flowered.
