Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

So… houseplants, eh? They’re the pet it’s okay to forget to feed (sometimes). And they don’t wet themselves (except sometimes).

Do you get pleasure from yours? Or is it one of those annoying ones that drops sticky residue on the window ledge? (I grew a small grapefruit bush from a pip once in a flowerpot in the living room and it basically shed sap into everything. Let's just say it's gone to live on a farm.)

And more importantly have you got any that started off as tiny little cute seedlings and then have grown out of control like a triffid?

:-)

I used to collect cacti - their flowers are really lovely - but they do tend to jab you in the fingers when you're not paying attention.

One bloke at work used to have about 25 cacti in small pots on his desk in a grid of 5x5

I sent Bint your way and now I’m thinking I should go and buy some plants just so that I can join in, too.

Yes, do! :-) I went to Ikea last night (awards self a medal for extreme shopping bravery) and was tempted by a load of very green looking houseplants... until I realised they were all plastic!

OH, in the days when he was merely boyf, made a little cross out of cocktail sticks with a paper RIP label and stuck it in the pot of an avocado stone my mum was trying to germinate.

She had the last laugh as it *did* germinate.

And turned into the most boring (and unproductive) house plant ever. :-)

This is the only houseplant we have. My Nan gave it to me when we moved in together. In 1986. I think OH waters it from time to time. It’s a tenacious bugger.
