For the first time, two years ago, it produced a single flower. A cynic said that was its swan-song. Last year, it spent thinking about its options. This year it produced another flower on my birthday. I love the way the flower has to force its way through its spiny defences.

This is two Strelitzia Reginae, I sowed the seeds of these around the time my youngest son was born, in January 2000. In October 2018, they finally flowered.
