This one is flowering at the moment - also grown from seed, but by our eighty-something neighbour who has a conservatory full of palm trees, banana plants etc. and we swap plants a fair bit.
In the past, I've grown quite a lot of exotic plants indoors - things like callistemon/ bottlebrush, proteas are quite easy and have nice flowers but they eventually get a bit too big. Used to grow trees too - eucalyptus, jacaranda, ceratonia (hence the username) but you end up throwing them out after a few years.
We have quite a few orchids, palm trees, lots of clivias, some cycads, bromeliads, citrus trees. Lots of succulents nicely arranged in bowls - they're easy to propagate and very simple to look after. Lots of spider plants for some reason. No cacti that I can think of though.

Meet Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior
In the evening his leaves fold inwards so you can see that beautiful deep red. In the morning he opens up

I've had houseplants most of my life, until OH and I separated, combining this with a massive downsizing operation, and I decided against indoor plants, especially as there were now 3 of us in a 3-bedroomed bungalow and mother and daughter had the two south-facing rooms so I didn't feel I could impose plants on them.
Over the years, each has moved out. I have not bought plants, but have been given them. An orchid, which to my amazement has survived year on year on year, flowering profusely, even though in a most unsuitable pot from which I cannot extract it. And a very large Christmas cactus from a lady moving out of the area: "I'd like you to have it", she said. "It's been in my family for about 100 years".
There is also an aloe, but I can't remember where I got that. Maybe I did bring it with me. It lives in the porch.

I didn’t purchase anything today in the end. Homebase was most disappointing.
Neymar and his chums were purchased online over the last 3 weeks
