It always makes me laugh when you have to answer those budget questions for things and there are all these categories for things like dry cleaning that I don’t have. Everything just comes out of the one pot.

I got Lasya when still employed, so ringfenced money for her, car, apliances, boiler etc as I would have to put her down if a bill higher than £100 would arise!!! Which is why I got the flack over not insuring her but, so far, at 8 years and counting, quoted £17/month rising to £25 when she gets older, I am very much quids in.

I had my last cat for 16 years and didn't have him insured and he cost me very little over that time, despite being an outside cat and a fighter. We've insured the dog for the last 9 years and had no expense at all apart from routine stuff. I'm tempted to cancel it now but something very expensive is bound to crop up if I do!
