Morning! Keeping my fingers crossed that the intense rain showers and possible thunderstorms wait until after my swim this afternoon

team ITG including catering. For those with cancelled cruises, the ships are ready & waiting - mrf managed to capture Carnival Valor parked in Portland Harbour, through my bedroom window *sea glimpse*. That’s my neighbours bins/garden, & the glimpse will soon be an enormous care village currently under construction. However, really, they’re not very close we live well to the right of this pic |

On the 'not' holiday theme .... Well, yesterday’s virtual drive to Arcata went well. Found the airbnb cottage, but suspect it is really a renamed garden shed. airbnb.co.uk Also odd, never met the host Jennifer, nor Silas who answered all my mails. But they did refund my deposit, so all good. Today is non-driving day exploring the area around Arcata (pop 17,974) and Eureka (pop 27,226). Take note - these guide book refs are running at £1 a time so far in cost of book vs number of refs used. First thing, that ‘hippie’ label. Turns out the main business here is agriculture of the herbal kind. Used to be very ‘backwoods’ and hidden and very illegal. Now it's legal, although it still seems backwoods and ‘protected’, no free tasting or PYO apparently. And in US, even backwoods California, protection means big guns. humboldtsfinestfarms.com newyorker.com Anyway, sightseeing … sequoia forests and marshes. Although seems ‘reserves’ here aren’t necessarily preserving animals in the same way as in UK. Unless the pheasant shoots in UK have stared calling themselves ‘reserves’? And drone hunting is a thing. Although maybe not like the pic. And I don’t know if they use a drone to find the prey/victim, or tie a rifle to the drone. Or send in an MQ-9, controlled from a secret base in Nevada. Arcata seems to be a place to visit and see once, and that’s enough? |

Morning 😊. Rest day for me today. Felt horrendous after my run yesterday. Realised I'd woefully underfuelled (ran 8.5 in hot humid weather on the back of 2 coffees and a slice of toast. Just say no, kids!) but after 2 pints of diluted juice and TP bringing me cheese on toast in bed, I felt a little better. Still mildly wobbly today so no activity planned. Actually nothing until next week due to shifts starting tomorrow. So today I need to go to the market, nip into Waitrose if there's no queue, then over to see my parents and pick some hair colour up from my hairdresser. Have a good day all xx |

Um -area protection is very often a cover doe hunting also in the UK, especially pheasants and grouse.
