It seems to be a 29er in the large frame size, 650b / 27.5 in the medium and small frame sizes, if that makes any difference to you, btw.

Yeah, it would be the large/29er I'd be going for.

I'm fancying a 29er as I think it'll give a wee bit more stability/ride over trails to make up for not having the rear sus and to carry speed. I may be completely wrong though!

Yes, I thought that was your preference - wasn't sure what size frame you were thinking of. I think honestly until you get "good", the wheel size thing makes next to no difference (I'm in that category!), especially if you only have 1 bike. But I've enjoyed mine (current one and previous were both 29ers).

Think I'll just go for it! Thanks for your help. I want to get going now. Just not enjoying getting out on the roads much at all now. I'll keep the road bike in case I want to do anything in the future.

LOL, I'm no authority (though perhaps I post that way - another of my flaws!). Though I can empathise with those without £££ to spend, slightly fearful of the lingo, trying to find the thing that will suit. A classic 40-something looking for an OK bike etc.

And as it happened, last year when this thread arose I'd been through an insurance claim to get a decent bike for about £600 sorted, and I thought I'd made a good choice, so was happy to share my pearls of wisdom ;-)
