realtimetrains.co.uk The optimum time to start the train would be 57 minutes past the hour. As an effective branch with no conflicting traffic on it and a few minutes turnaround allowing recovery, trains are reasonably likely to run as scheduled |

I would like to do the Cambus quarter next year. Flat with a good feed after, that’s my kind of race!

Princes, and a mid race break its a cracking wee race. Dvorak, or run it in the opposite direction like the first year, that way hopefully get everybody over the crossing before the train comes! |

As an interesting diversion, suggestions for races with unusual obstacles in them? Obviously the level crossing in the Cambus Quarter counts, and the old Lochaber marathon there was the possibility of being held up at the swing bridge crossing the Caledonian Canal. Yesterday at KPHM, we had to run through a very low, dark and creepy tunnel. Any more suggestions ?

The canal tow path tunnel on the Glasgow to Edinburgh ultra Soapy? Highland cattle at cow poo alley on the West Highland Way at Bogle Glen? Well done at Kirkcaldy. Be a bit of a shock to these expecting a flat, road half marathon?! G |

There’s a couple of tunnels on the canal. One is very long and dark and slippery. But the aqueduct is more scary.

The KPHM was a long way from flat. Steep ups and downs It’s good to see a new race getting off to a good start. The organisers should be proud of themselves they did a good job. It will be interesting to see if it gets established in the calendar once the novelty wears off.
