Just had our renewal for Luna. She was 3 in August.

Year 1 £10.80 a month with Pet Protect 4k limit (£95 excess plus 5%)
She was ill with campylobacter just before renewal at a cost of £2700 with the vets
Year 2 £11.70 a month (£95 excess plus 15%)
Had tests for possible relapse of campylobacter at £700
Year 3 £13.26 a month (£95 excess plus 15%)
Had meningitis at a cost of £3600
Year 4 £14.70 a month (£95 excess plus 15%)

I think as they charge the 15% it helps keep the costs down but I was surprised it had only gone up to £14.70 and we have billed them for 7k minus excess

They have always paid direct to the vet too which helps.

It's time to say goodbye to our old lady Laika (seen here trying to work out if Sam is asleep enough for her to steal his beer. Sadly she is so blind she couldn't tell the glass was already empty) :(

She'll be taking her last trip to the vet on Monday.

She's just turned 14, and has been with us for nearly 7 years, but she's losing the will to go on now - she's blind, she has a heart murmur, her four remaining teeth are far from healthy, and her muscle loss and arthritis have combined to making getting up increasingly difficult resulting in some unpleasant accidents in the house.

She's been a lovely, if incredibly weird and indescribably fragrant, little hond and we will miss her dearly, but we're confident it's best for her to let her go peacefully now, while she still does have some joy (like being hand fed roast chicken, or when we come home after being out shopping together).

(p.s., I know lots of pet people like it, but please don't mention the sodding rainbow bridge, we're not that kind of pet people and just think it sounds nauseatingly twee)

It’s never an easy call, but you know when it’s the right time for them.

I think you're being both brave and kind Rae. Goodbye Laika. Hugs for you Rae.

(And where *did* this rainbow bridge stuff come from? I'd never heard of it until a couple of years ago.)
