The correct way for international jetsetters to enjoy their zones might be a map on the wall with coloured pins.

I should think about getting one.

Fab map indeed. How did you make it?

My map is on Google Earth. If you go to the zone map, at the top you can choose a location and next to the GO there is BIG MAP and GET KML. You need the KML.

If you have Google Earth installed, you only need to click the KML file to get the map I've used.

When you have multiple KML files - e.g. one every six months - it is an easy matter to have zones in a different colour depending on how long ago you explored them.

I think Conquercising on a moving ship has cropped up in this thread before - so finding myself recently on a moving ship with running track and a GPS device I decided to try a little experiment...

The track was labelled that 6 laps would be a mile (it was quite a big ship) - so I did a warm up lap, then 12 laps of fairly hard effort, and a cool down. It was an oval track, although 'longer and thinner' than a normal athletics track.

I had assumed that the GPS trace would be a nice squiggly-spirally line. But with the ship doing 18 knots (~20mph) and me doing no more than 10mph, it comes out as a very slightly wavy line - as the GPS thinks I'm alternating between 10mph and 30mph. You can see the laps in the pace graph below (and where I slowed down to fish my phone out of my pocket to check it was recording properly).

The GPS also reckoned I covered 7 miles in 18 minutes (which would be broadly right with the ship doing 20mph) - clocking up 10 Conquercise zones in the Bay of Biscay - which I have of course relinquished!

I'm now stuck in a debate with myself about what zones I would have claim under different scenarios. Had the ship been in port I would certainly have claimed a run round the deck. Were the ship moving slower than my running pace I might think about it. But 10 zones for 18 minutes effort feels to have crossed a line!

EdJ - I think* open sea zones, more than 20 miles from the coast (so unlikely to be targets for swimmers or kayakers) are safe to claim and keep - if only for nostalgia and the quirkiness. As long as you were active, not drinking cocktails, and of course wearing 'special clothes or shoes'
*Just my vote - maybe need a conquersize poll?
(but I wouldn't say the same for running/walking round the aisles on a plane)
(and you could have swum them in the pool for double points)

I counted the number of zones appropriate to my mileage from the starting point.

I am inclined to agree with um. If this was the difference between a significant milestone in the game or on the ownership ladder I would err towards ChrisHB view but otherwise I can't see the harm - but maybe other take zones more seriously than I do.

In other news I will be in a new part of Brisbane this afternoon and trying to think how I can justify turning the garmin on. Suspect it won't happen though.

I think given you were actually running, at an effort of sorts, it’s not unreasonable to claim the zones as ‘having ran in them’

You weren’t just walking between the bar and the toilets with your farming on as you passed thru various zones.
