We've got loads of Winter thrushes this year too, more than I ever remember seeing in the area.

You see, the trouble is I go to work in the dark and come back in the dark. For all I know it's elves taking my bird food.
However, it seems we are visited mid-afternoon by LTT which is always lovely to see.

Not many winter thrushes around the places I go here in Cardiff/Vale of Glamorgan. The odd few Redwings..not even seen a Fieldfare yet and Blackbirds etc seem pretty average. Ah..but Song Thrushes and Blackbirds singing before sunrise! I see Jackdaws dispersing from a regular roost as I run by before sunrise but as it got light the misty morning wasn't good to see much other than a solitary Heron.

Not while running, but saw my first ring necked parakeet when I took a trip down the Lee Valley this afternoon. Not quite sure how I feel about them as neither native nor naturally introduced, but has been a while since I saw a 'lifer' and it was nice to get a decent view of something with all the fog. Furthermore, I had just had one of those annoying conversations about having just missed something good- a Bittern.

Finally spotted the Kingfisher. Went to Rhuddlan Nature Reserve on my run this morning as want to spot the otter that is there. Stopped for a luck and no joy. Noticed some colour out of the corner of my eye and there it was. The kingfisher sat on a branch overlooking the pond not ten feet away. Chuffed to bits, not only to get my first sighting, but to have a chance to really take in the magnificent colours.

I couldn't figure out recently why my birdbath, which has a capacity of 2 gallons, was virtually empty at the end of each day.
Working from home today I could witness blackbirds, starlings, blue & great tits, robin, dunnock all being caught in the act.
Blackbirds do like a good splash around. Lovely to see.
