KTT, there are mixed abilities. I ran XC last season and I had only been running a month at the start. I plodded around slower than 10 min miles, came not quite last (except for once when I was way behind everyone!) and got loads of encouragement from all the teams and their supporters. I had a great time and it helped my running to end to be involved. Have fun on Saturday. Where are you running?
Is anyone else doin East Croydon League at Lloyd Park on Saturday?

BS: I'm debating whether to run the East Croydon League tomorrow. Bit of a pain with it being in the middle of Saturday afternoon but we'll see. I'll need to get some XC shoes tonight if I do decide to run it!
My road racing plans in the lead up to Christmas appear to have been disrupted so I'm thinking about doing more XC over winter. Is this a good way to improve my running? The impression I get is that a lot of great runners have cut their teeth on XC...

YAY, come along MB XC is a great way to improve. I really picked up in my road running after doing the XC season last year. Enjoy your coffee. I think I need a second this morning

Hi I popped my XC cherry on Sunday in the Herts Sunday League. came 57th out of 130.
One big difference to road running is the rhythm, I found I was constantly having to change pace. It was hard to keep focused and keep effort up, but then grass is my least fav surface. A big plus point is owning a pair of spikes. Am off to get some new sizes of studs on Saturday. It's the closest running gets to Lego.

You can help me Gobi, seeming as I seem to have a similar taste in shoes to you - what spikes do you have that you rate suitable for XC?

Lyra OK
Doing Frostbite League with my club this winter. Certainly won't be doing anything very quickly, but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless. Think rules have changed this year so that three ladies need to score rather than just two. Hence, club secretary is, I think, particularly keen to have a good show of female runners.
